2019 Juneau Day of Caring
In keeping with the spirit of Volunteerism in our communities, United Way of Southeast Alaska held its annual Day of Caring in Juneau on Friday, October 4th. Local nonprofits were matched up with local businesses whose employee teams completed prearranged projects at the agencies. The participating businesses were SEARHC, CBJ Parks and Rec, True North Federal Credit Union, Shattuck and Grummett Insurance, AmeriCorps, GCI, Northrim Bank, Wells Fargo, and Coeur Alaska.
The day began at 8:00 a.m. at University of DIPAC for an introduction and a continental breakfast. Immediately afterward, teams were dispatched to work on their assigned projects at AWARE, JAMHI, Girl Scouts, Association for the Education of Young Children (AEYC), Southeast Alaska Independent Living, (SAIL), Helping Hands, and the Bridge Adult Day Care Center.
At AWARE volunteers from Wells Fargo organized and cleaned storage areas.
At JAMHI, volunteers from Northrim Bank did general landscaping work.
At the Girl Scouts, volunteers from GCI worked on preparing thier garden for winter, did some landscaping including taking down a tree, and painted an exterior wall.
At AEYC, volunteers from AmeriCorps and CBJ Parks and Rec, helped move in and put together furnature for the Baby Raven and Eagle Child Care facility.
At Southeast Alaska Independent Living, volunteers from Shattuck and Grummett Insurance helped to move their office from the second to third floor.
At Helping Hands, volunteers from True North Federal Credit Union cleaned and organized their warehouse.
At the Bridge, volunteers from Coeur Alaska and SEARHC performed landscaping tasks, including clearing out brush and trees.
All in all, over 75 volunteers were able to get a tremendous amount of work done for four nonprofit agencies who serve the community of Juneau.
